How it started, how it’s going
Substack advised me to post something. Here’s what I’ve been busy with.
It’s been a while, and this platform wants me to create some content. That’s what I’ve been doing, just elsewhere. Let’s see …
December
My announced appearance on the 8th edition of Millenniyule came and went. It was fun, even though I wasn’t up to discussing the seemingly unavoidable topics of our times, Kung-Flu and the Ukraine mess. I guess the audience that came for the usual frothing at the mouth some Austrian acquaintances of mine specialize in wasn’t really satisfied, but that’s something I’m OK with. So: Been there, done that—see for yourselves!
January
Invited by the infamous “Institut für Staatspolitik” (IfS), I gave a lecture on classical writers critiquing party politics, i.e. Moisei Ostrogorsky, Robert Michels, Carl Schmitt, Maurice Duverger, Friedrich August von der Heydte, and Johannes Agnoli. There’s a recording of the speech that has not yet been published. If necessary, I shall tend to that myself. Until then, enjoy a little image movie shot at a similar event in 2015 that I helped organize back in the day.
I also took up my lecture series on Neoreaction / The Dark Enlightenment that the Frankfurt-based antiversity attempt “GegenUni” asked me to deliver. It’s slated for six videos and will probably end in four weeks. This is the introduction:
February
I recorded a YouTube-friendly version of a lecture I gave in 2018 about the real implications of the “year of destiny” 1968 for the German (New) right. Might create an English version as well if I can find the time. Let me know whether you’d be interested!
A re-arranged version of my January speech about party criticisms got published in the IfS journal Sezession (#112).
Besides that, I spent most of the month working on a portrait of Hans-Jürgen Krahl, the leading revolutionary theorist of the German student movement around 1968 who was both down-and-out and a trenchant thinker at the same time. The essay is going to be published one of these days in Sezession #113; this was my Instagram teaser:
March (stretching into April)
I’m currently translating two books for two different publishers, a full-fledged non-fiction volume as well as a collection of short stories in the vein of David Foster Wallace. Both are probably going to be finished and published before the fall.
As for my writing, I’ve signed a contract for an essay to be published as part of the famous “kaplaken” series by Antaios Publishing. It’s going to cover certain aspects of interpersonal relations in our late modern times and will be finished in late July, release date to be announced.
Last not least, I did a little chat with Martin Sellner, talking about NRx again as well as different factions of the right both in the U.S. and the Krautosphere, something to be continued soon.
Until then, quite a few more articles are waiting to be written, so I guess I’ll stay busy, trying not to neglect this Substack as much as I’ve done so far. Wish me luck and keep the faith!
Good for you, i guess
